According to Auto Express, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk has revealed that the much awaited Gen III Tesla will be called the Model III.
It’s fairly well known that Tesla had always wanted their models to be S . E . X, but because Ford wanted to sue them for the Model E name, they decided to call it Model III, so it spells:
S III X
Hah!
The car will have around 320km of realistic range, and cost about $35,000 USD, which, if the Model S is any indication, will mean the car will retail for about $53,000 in Australia, depending on the State.
In the US, it will be squarely targeting the BMW 3 series crowd, but as well know, the story is very different here.
Except for a very low base 3 series, Tesla will most likely be competing against brands like Peugeot, Renault or other second tier European manufacturers for consumers’ business.
So a shopper can have the option of an underwhelming ICE car, or they can have an all electric, around 6.0 sec 0-100, 17″ display, best “fuel” economy in the world etc car.
It seems a no brainer to me.
