Strong signs for Porsche as Taycan adds 500 jobs

8 October 2019

The Taycan is all set to pay off for Porsche. Their Stuttgart/Zuffenhausen plant is adding 2000 jobs — 500 more than expected — as demand for the all-electric sportscar continues to grow.

In the short window since its September premiere, the Taycan has quickly become a brand-leading model for Porsche. Attention on the model has driven them to expand production in their Stuttgart plant where it is manufactured.

The Taycan is Porsche’s first all-electric model and marks a bold new direction for the legacy automaker. It has quickly drawn comparisons with the Tesla Model S as a leading luxury EV on the world stage.

Over 20,000 prospective buyers expressed interest in the Taycan through the Porsche Deporitor programme, with an equal number of units expected to be manufactured in its first year. This number is expected to rise over time and has spurred Porsche’s decision to expand their manufacturing staff for the EV.

Andreas Haffner, Porsche Executive Board Member for Human Resources and Social Affairs has stated:

“With the Taycan, we are showing that e-mobility is by no means a job killer. Rather, we are underlining its future viability, especially in the sports car segment. In addition, more than 32,000 applications show how great the interest is in shaping the future of the sports car together with us.”

While a large number of new staff are joining Porsche for the first time, many more have chosen to transfer to the Taycan line due to interest in the model and a desire for EV manufacturing skills that are set to increase in value as the industry grows.
